As the days begin to get shorter and the air a little crisper, the 2nd Sunday in May always brings some warmth as we take the time to say thanks and show appreciation to our Mums (and Grandmums) for all they do. WHAT'S NEW AT GCPSH:
· Sports Dietitian started on Friday 8th May.
GCPSH welcomes Dietitian and Sports Nutritionist Kristen MacKenzie to the clinic. Kristen is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and qualified Exercise Physiologist with over 4 years experience in clinical, private practice and sports settings in both Australia and New Zealand. She specializes in providing dietary guidance on a range of nutrition related issues such as weight loss, weight gain, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and much more. Kristen currently works in a range of settings including Sports Nutrition Consultancies for the Brisbane Lions AFL Football Club and the Queensland Academy of Sport. · Megaburn Bars … Natural Nutrition that’s good for you and tastes great!

· Podiatrist Available at GCPSH from late May 2009
Later this month GCPSH will be able to offer the services of Podiatrist Darren Gaffney. Darren is an experienced member of the Gold Coast Foot Centre Team and will be starting at GCPSH towards the end of May. · Kyle Gardiner wins April Referral Rewards Draw.

OTHER NEWS ....
· Britt Caling, our Principal Sports Physio has returned from racing in the 5day Keen Adventure Race. Britt and team mate Gary Sutherland (Team Teva/Mountain Designs) finished an outstanding 4th place overall (yep, this includes the all-male teams), not far behind the current World Champions. Congratulations Britt!
· Limited physio availability during June. Britt is available in the clinic for the remainder of May, however heads overseas to work for the AIS Triathlon Team throughout June. This means she will be unavailable from 4th June to 1st July. Lisa Graham (Physio) will be available for consultations from Tuesday to Saturday as per usual throughout June and we are also looking to employ a 3rd physiotherapist prior to Britt’s departure.
· Physiotherapy position available. · Principal Massage Therapist Thea Dillon was fortunate enough to spend a few days last week working for Swimming Australia in camp on the Gold Coast. This camp was the first in a series over the next few months as the National Team prepares for World Championships in Rome later in the year. It was a great opportunity to work with some of the best male Swimmers in the country.
· Massage Therapist Phil Young has been very busy over the past few months working & travelling with Jim Beam Racing (formerly Dick Johnson Racing) throughout the V8 Supercar Series. The drivers have been performing well and are currently placed 3rd (Steven Johnson) and 14th (James Courtney). Phil travels with the team to all events throughout the year providing support services such as Massage Therapy and Strength & Conditioning programming and advice. When he is not away with the Team, Phil is available in the clinic for massage appointments Mondays and Wednesdays. Contact the clinic if you would like to take advantage of Phil’s expertise by booking a treatment.
· VISION PERSONAL TRAINING STUDIOS: Free seminars teaching you how to lose body fat and keep it off !!
Vision Personal Training continue to run free monthly education seminars at the Runaway Bay Studio. These sessions are designed to teach you:

- Which exercises are the most effective
- Why including resistance training provides the best results

Aimed at enhancing flexibility, body awareness, posture and core strength, pilates is beneficial for everybody, whether you’ve sustained an injury or not. The classes at GCPSH are kept to a maximum of 12 participants so are small enough for you to receive the indvidualised attention necessary to get the most out of the class. CLIENT CAPERS: Congratulations go to ……
· All Mums, because they deserve to be congratulated for putting up with us. Thanks Mum & Happy Mother’s Day for the 10th!!
· Brad Kahlefeldt after his 2nd placing in the inaugural event of the Triathlon World Championship Series held in South Korea last week. After covering 1.5km of swimming, 40km biking and 9.8km of running, Brad ended up in a 200m sprint for the line with New Zealander Bevan Docherty. Both athletes ending up sprawled on the ground after making a desperate dive for the finishing line. Officials eventually awarded Docherty with the win and Brad with second place. Either way it was a great way to kick off the first race of the new World Series and an outstanding effort by Brad. The next race is in Madrid On 31st May. Good luck Brad.
· Swimmer Zach Featherstone from Southport Swim Club for his recent win at the National Age Championships. Congratulations also to all other Southport swimmers who medalled at Nationals.
· Kelly Marquenie and Katie Goldman (both swimmers) who have been selected to represent Australia on their first open national swim teams.
· Alan Devine for riding in the Macsim Sydney to Surfers Bike Ride from 2nd-8th May. The charity event raises much needed funds for Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off The Streets program. It is run over 7 days with cyclists covering an average distance of 120km/day for a grand total of just under 1000km. Good job Alan.
· All age group triathletes selected in the national team to compete at the Sprint, Olympic, and Long Distance World Championships later in the year. The Sprint and Olympic Distance events will be held on the Gold Coast in September while the Long Distance World Championships are scheduled for Perth in October./p>
· Swimmers Jane Solomon & John Crisp who were recently crowned National Champions in multiple events at the Australian Masters Swimming Championships in Brisbane.
